Carbon Steel EN-1A, also referred to as 230M07, is a low-carbon free-cutting steel known for its superb machinability. Its typical chemical makeup includes: Carbon ≤ 0.15%, Manganese 0.90–1.30%, Sulfur 0.20–0.30%, and Phosphorus ≤ 0.07%. The sulfur content enhances machinability but does come with a slight reduction in ductility. In terms of mechanical properties, it boasts a tensile strength of 370–440 MPa and a yield strength of around 280 MPa, along with a good surface finish and precise dimensions. While EN-1A isn’t suitable for heat treatment, it can be case-hardened for added wear resistance in specific applications.
